What is the mission of your organization?
St. George Interfaith Food Pantry is a reflection of our diverse community, serving people of all races, ages and abilities. We are reminded that Jesus has charged us to “clothe the naked and feed the hungry”, and we strive to heed God’s call to love and care for our neighbors. Many committed volunteers work at the Pantry. They see the need for what we do and believe that we are called to share our blessings with those who are less fortunate. We provide nourishing food and groceries, personal care items, paper products and cleaning items, as well as some clothes and household items. Enough food is given to sustain each family for three to five days. Of equal importance, we try to offer a welcoming, respectful heart for those who need the assistance we give.

St. George interfaith Food Pantry was founded in 1981 and has operated continuously to assist individuals and families of low (or no) income who live in ZIP codes 45217, 45219 and 45220, and military veterans living in Hamilton County. We are a ministry of St Monica-St George Church and we include the term “Interfaith” in our name because we also receive support from several churches of various faith traditions, as well as many schools, organizations and individuals.

Any comments about your selections you would like to share with the student philanthropists?
Many clients say “have a blessed day!” when they leave messages on the answering machine at the Food Pantry or when they are leaving the Pantry with their groceries. It is because of these people that I really AM having a blessed day – It truly is a blessing to be able to help out a person in need.

People often say to Military Veterans: “Thank you for your service”. At the Pantry, we can also say “Veterans, thank you for the opportunity to serve you.”

May people are unaware that a person who receives funds through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP – also known as “food stamps”) is not able to buy personal care items or cleaning items with these funds. The Food Pantry is always in need of such items and appreciates these types of donations in addition to non-perishable food donations.

Does your organization have volunteer opportunities available for students? * Yes, Grades 9 – 12
List possible volunteer opportunities -or- a link to where they can be found on the web. Occasional service days available for Parent-Student Teams or Teacher-supervised small class groups (maximum 8 people) to help with unloading trucks, sorting donations, stocking shelves, packing bags, and cleaning.
