| What is the mission of your organization? | |
| NEST Community Learning Center was founded in March 2016 with the mission to address academic and non-academic barriers that perpetuate the cycle of generational poverty in suburban and rural communities. Starting in the early 2000s, poverty began migrating from this nation’s urban centers and now, since 2012, there are more children living in poverty in the suburbs and in the rural parts of each state than in its cities. Through its innovative mobile classrooms, NEST delivers year-round, award-winning academic and non-academic programs right to the front doors of suburban and rural kids in poverty. We help WHEN kids need it and WHERE kids need it! NEST believes that although food, shelter and clothing are especially important for at-risk kids, the only thing that will profoundly change the trajectory of the lives of kids in poverty is EDUCATION. NEST has four FREE academic focused programs: An After-School Program, Morning Early Learner’s Program for kindergarten readiness, A summer Lunch Learn & Play Program for summer academic skill retention and a Tutoring Virtual On-Line Program for kids that cannot access our programming because of location or work schedule. All in-person programs offer nutritious food, physical and craft activities, and specially designed programs to promote social/emotional wellness through trusted relationships with volunteers and staff, who are trained to work with kids who have experienced trauma and/or need help in building strong academic skills. |

Children, Education and Poverty describes NEST Community Learning Center perfectly. The children we serve all live in poverty. And, every study ever conducted on how to break the cycle of generational poverty, found that Education was the key.
