What is the mission of your organization? |
The Kettering Backpack Program is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with one goal: to fight childhood hunger. The program discreetly provides at-risk students with a bag of food each Friday throughout the school year. This food helps to sustain the students’ nutritional needs over the weekends when school breakfasts and lunches are not available. Our Mission Statement is: Empowering children and fighting hunger one backpack at a time. Our vision is one of “Empowering children and fighting hunger one backpack at a time.”

Any comments about your selections you would like to share with the student philanthropists? |
More than 42% of school age children in Kettering qualify for the free/reduced lunch program (and most of those are free). The Kettering Backpack Program currently serves over 700 students in Kettering each week throughout the school year in 19 schools in Kettering. These schools include all Kettering elementary/middle/high schools as well as parochial schools. We have recently expanded our outreach to both Montgomery County Learning Centers, Youth Partial Hospitalization, Kettering Early Childhood Education Center, as well as open a food pantry inside of Fairmont High School.
