Camp Sue Osborn is unique to Northeast Ohio because it is a camp for children, and adults, with special needs and different abilities. If they were on a special plan, known as an Individualized Education Plan, in school, they are eligible. Because they are all so different, while at camp they actually feel less different and more accepted. They thrive in the environment where they are all completely accepted and encouraged. We take camp experiences that their peers get at other camps and adapt them so that each camper can participate to the best of their ability. While doing that, the campers are also learning to be more self reliant, more confident and more social. This leads to improved life skills. We keep them outside and active, helping them learn new recreational activities. This, combined with the life long relationships they develop, helps improve their overall health. | |
Does your organization have volunteer opportunities available for students? * | Yes, Grades 9 – 12 |
List possible volunteer opportunities -or- a link to where they can be found on the web. | There is information on our website, campsueosborn.org. We frequently have young volunteers work at our camp under the supervision of our adult staff. Volunteers may help with activities or help our campers access activities. For example, if we were playing an adapted volleyball game, maybe they help keep score or maybe they help get the ball to a camper who is not mobile. Our volunteers are never alone with campers and only assist in the manner with which they are comfortable. |
