| What is the mission of your organization? | |
| We are a dedicated organization working to care for animals that have been rescued by the Humane Society due to cruelty, neglect, homelessness or owner surrenders. We are committed to place these animals into permanent, loving homes. It is our moral obligation to protect and improve the lives of all animals as we strive to educate our community about proper and responsible care. All pets are spayed/neutered prior to or upon adoption and we strive to educate our adopters and general public on the importance of spaying and neutering pets. Brown County is a rural county and grants such as these help tremendously toward our goal of reducing the number of unwanted pets in our county. We also strive to provide financial assistance to our community to help with the cost of spay and neuter surgeries for pets. | |

| BCHS provides safety, daily care and medical care for stray and homeless animals Brown County. In addition, we educate adopters and pet owners on proper pet care and the importance of spaying and neutering. BCHS also assists low-income pet owners by providing dog and cat food (as supplies allow us) at no cost to people in need. And since BCHS strongly believes spaying and neutering dogs and cats is the best way to decrease the number of animals in need and coming into the shelters, we strive to offer finanacial assistance to pet owners and caretakers of feral cats so that more animals can be spayed/neutered. As funding allows, we also will provide financial assistance for critical vet care. | |
| Does your organization have volunteer opportunities available for students? * |
Yes, Grades 9 – 12
|
| List possible volunteer opportunities -or- a link to where they can be found on the web. | |
| Webpage for volunteer application: bchsohio.org/volunteer BCHS has 2 separate locations: the cat shelter and the dog shelter. We accept student volunteers at the cat shelter for ages 12 and up with parent/guardian accompanying the student. Students are able to provide socialization/play/attention to the shelter cats. Due to the small space, we cannot accomodate group volunteer activities at the cat shelter. Volunteer opportunities at the dog shelter are better suited for high school ages due to size/behavior of dogs. Most dogs at the shelter are medium to large and can be quite rambunctious. Parent/guardian accompanying the student is required. We are able to offer volunteer opportunities for high school groups at the dog shelter. Students are able to walk and play with dogs, help clean, and provide landscape help on the grounds. The dogs love getting attention and exercise! BCHS also encourages “Doggie Day Trips”. You are able to take a shelter dog for the day on a little trip to get him/her some time out of the shelter. Take a dog for a walk at a park, around a pet-friendly store like TSC, through a drive-thru for a “pup cup”, or just a drive through the country for some fresh air! Anyone over 18 years old can stop by the dog shelter and pick up a dog for the day. We will match you with a dog that really needs a day out! So tell your parents about this fun activity! |
