What is the mission of your organization? | |
The Aruna Project is an Athleisure lifestyle brand that creates lifelong freedom for sexually enslaved women through employment marked by holistic care.
We’ve created a model with a flywheel effect combining the best of non-profit and business. Through our US non-profit we mobilize thousands across the US to Run for Her Freedom in Aruna Runs to both raise awareness and funds. Those funds are used in our Training Center in the heart of the brothel system to help free the women through a variety of programs, from daily visits in the brothels, to Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Skill & Trade Development to accelerate freedom. Through our Indian Private Limited Company (for profit business owned by the US non-profit) we employ those set free from the brothel system through our Training Center and bring them into an environment marked by holistic care. Each Artisan earns a competitive wage, health care, retirement and receives on-going counseling. She helps produce high quality Athleisure products utilizing eco friendly and recycled fabrics & trims that compete in the open market in the US. In purchasing from Aruna each customer receives a functional luxury Athleisure product with great purpose that extends to the very Artisan who handcrafted it. As freedom grows in South Asia, we are able to hire more women freed from sex trafficking in the US to aid in order fulfillment and customer service. |

Which social causes (up to 3 choices) does your agency address through its programming? * |
|
Any comments about your selections you would like to share with the student philanthropists? | Human Trafficking is a global epidemic affecting virtually every country on the earth, yet in specific locations in South Asia certain factors converge to increase women’s risk. We work in the center of some of the highest concentrations of sex trafficking in Asia and our success there aids in employing US survivors as well. |
Does your organization have volunteer opportunities available for students? * | Yes, Grades 6 – 12 |
List possible volunteer opportunities -or- a link to where they can be found on the web. | Students can volunteer at a local Aruna Run (we have runs across the US where participants run for a specific exploited woman by name, these runs raise awareness of her need and raise money to help bring and sustain her freedom). |
