What is the mission of your organization?
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Disaster relief is at the heart of our mission. When disasters strike, the Red Cross mobilizes its dedicated workforce — 90% volunteers — to offer shelter, meals, health, and mental health services and other assistance to address the basic needs of disaster survivors. Every day, the American Red Cross is at work down the street, and around the world. Since its founding in 1881, the Red Cross has been a consistent lifeline for millions during their moments of greatest need. The Red Cross has been supporting the Cincinnati region for over 100 years, touching the lives of nearly 50,000 people each year. Today, local Red Cross services include:
• Disaster Relief: The Red Cross provides food, shelter, financial assistance, and comfort to families impacted by disasters.
• Disaster Preparedness: The Red Cross trains community members about disaster preparedness, installs smoke alarms in local households, and educates families about fire safety.
• Preparedness, Health & Safety Services: The Red Cross trains individuals in lifesaving skills.
• Service to Armed Forces: The Red Cross supports members of the military and their families before, during, and after deployment.

Disaster relief is at the heart of our mission. When disasters strike, the Red Cross mobilizes its dedicated workforce — 90% volunteers — to offer shelter, meals, health and mental health services and other assistance to address the basic needs of disaster survivors. Red Cross disaster preparedness activities focus on the prevention of house fires, the single most frequent “disaster” experienced by our community, by installing FREE alarms and batteries. The Red Cross installs these smoke alarms in the community to help save lives. Our Pillowcase outreach targets youth in 3rd thru 5th grades, teaching them the skills they need to build their own disaster kit and be prepared to survive a disaster. The American Red Cross supports our military members from the moment they enlist to the moment they separate from the service – and beyond. We offer critical assistance and resources to service members, veterans and their families globally 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year through 3 key components: emergency services, Military Hospitals/Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care Facilities, and building strong families and resilient communities through preparedness courses that include mental health support and safety training.
