Project Hope for the Homeless is the only emergency homeless shelter in Lake County and serves residents of Lake, Cuyahoga, Geauga and Ashtabula counties, as well as a small percentage from outside the Cleveland area. What’s important to know: 1. On any given night in Lake County, hundreds of individuals are sleeping in places not designed for human habitation: under bridges, in building lobbies, on cars, or in parks. Recent point in time counts by the Lake County Continuum of Care show that the number of unsheltered homeless individuals has increased each year since 2011. In 2020 we served a total of 280 guests, including 65 children through our family program named Families Moving Forward. 2. Despite the challenges facing shelter guests, including addiction and mental illness, through September 2021, we’ve served 216 individuals (including 23 children). These guests have found extraordinary success through the goal-oriented program, with 78 percent of guests successfully transitioning into a better quality of life. In addition to providing the beds and shelter for safe sleep, meals and other basic needs, Project Hope for the Homeless works with individuals and families experiencing homelessness to provide the referrals needed for in-depth help and permanent success. Here is an example of a success story share to the staff from former guest Ms. H: “My experience at the shelter was positive, the great men and women were professionals. Their decisions were spot on. I’m very thankful for the seminars and the Q and A sessions with the nurses. I am also grateful for the nutritious meals, fruit and vegetables make me feel better especially as I age gracefully. The books that I saw were really good as well. The Handbook gets an A-plus. Structure is valuable, keeping me on task and remember God’s only request is to try to leave the results up to Him. Thanks to all volunteers, so far Project Hope for the Homeless is the best care ministry around.”
