What is the mission of your organization?
HER Cincinnati’s mission is to empower women to break the cycles of poverty, education, and human trafficking. Our program efforts are focused in three areas: Housing, Education, and Recovery Services. Our Housing program, Anna Louise Inn (ALI), provides affordable housing and supportive services for women at risk of homelessness. And, our Education program, Cincinnati Scholar House (CSH), provides affordable housing, education, case management and wrap-around, holistic supportive services for single-parent college students and their children with the goal of breaking the cycle of poverty two generations at a time. Our Recovery program, Off the Streets (OTS), provides case management with group and individual counseling for female survivors of human trafficking & substance use disorders. HER Cincinnati’s vision is a community of resilient women with the skills and confidence to thrive.

HER Cincinnati, the longest continuously operating social service agency in Cincinnati, was founded in 1830 under the name of Cincinnati Union Bethel. The agency’s first programs were provided to boatmen and their families traveling the Ohio River. Over a span of almost 200 years services were added to meet the growing needs of Cincinnati families including pioneering the first free kindergarten, the first free health clinic, the first dormitory at the University of Cincinnati and the first women’s residence facility, the Anna Louise Inn, built in 1909. Currently, HER Cincinnati continues to remain relevant and keep up with the changing needs in our community. Pervasive poverty, especially for single female-led households, mental health instability, drug addiction, and lack of social justice and equity are some of the major issues plaguing our community today. In response to those community needs, currently, HER Cincinnati runs three programs: The Anna Louise Inn, now an affordable housing building that provides supportive services designed to empower woman to retain housing, and find emotional stability and self-sufficiency; Off The Streets, a shelter for woman recovering from drug addiction and who have survived the horrors of human trafficking; and our newest program, the Cincinnati Scholar House, an affordable housing program with supportive services and onsite child development center designed to empower single parents, who are also full-time students to complete their education, break the cycle of poverty and create a sustainable future for themselves and their children. HER Cincinnati’s vision is a community of resilient women who have the skills and confidence to thrive.
