What is the mission of your organization?
Cincinnati Music & Wellness Coalition is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization with a mission to promote a culture of wellness through evidence-based music making, visual art and cultural dance. In 2019, through our coalition we actively engaged 13,355 individuals of all ages. Our goal is to assist individuals take an active and meaningful role in their health and wellbeing. Our primary work is about stress reduction and wellness through music making. Since 2008, we offer Clavinova Connection and HealthRHYTHMS, two evidence based recreational music making wellness programs innovated by Barry Bittman, MD, neurologist and population health innovator. Dr Bittman’s peer-reviewed scientific research is in the field of psychoneuroimmunology (PNI). PNI involves taking control of the disease by controlling stress and lessening it. Both programs have demonstrated stress reduction and changes at biological and psychosocial levels. Clavinova Connection uses Clavinovas (Yamaha digital pianos) and HealthRHYTHMS is a group empowerment drumming program. Both programs do not require prior musical experience. We offer the programs to older adults, developmentally disabled, individuals recovering from mental illness and substance abuse, refugees, veterans, at-risk youth, high school students, caregivers, and corporate wellness groups.
