Children’s Law Center, Inc. (CLC), established in 1989, is a non-profit legal service center protecting the rights of children and youth to help them overcome barriers and transition into adulthood, better advocate for their needs, and successfully contribute to society. It provides individual legal advocacy to children and youth, and through public policy work, training and education, impact litigation, and juvenile defender support services, seeks to improve the systems that serve them. CLC offers services in both Kentucky and Ohio, and collaborates with other organizations within the region and nationally on a variety of topics.

Children’s Law Center (CLC) provides legal representation for children in cases involving protection from harm, education rights, and court appointed child victim/witness cases. CLC is recognized as the authority on children’s rights and education advocacy. CLC does not charge any fees to receive services.
The majority of our clients are school-age children who are poor, disabled, abused, neglected, or otherwise disadvantaged. CLC provided direct service of legal representation to 622 children and youth in 2019. Throughout its 31 years of operation CLC has provided legal representation to thousands of children in this region.
Many if not most of our young clients have experienced poverty, childhood maltreatment, trauma exposure, or lack stable supports within their families and communities. Some have received inequitable treatment as a result of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or disability. Frequently, they are involved in the juvenile justice systems, family court, the child welfare system, the mental health system, or they lack access to appropriate education. In each case, we identify overall risk factors, but focus on immediate issues concerning legal needs of the child.
CLC serves children throughout Ohio and Kentucky. Funding from the Magnified Giving will be used to directly serve youth in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
Does your organization have volunteer opportunities available for students? * No, sorry.
