What is the mission of your organization?
We use volunteers along with teens referred to us by the Diversion Court to cook fresh vegetables we’ve rescued that week from the waste stream. We give prepared soups out cup by steaming cup to adults in parks downtown on weekends and weekly to children in partnering schools and rec centers in food deserts. With cooperating schools and rec centers we additionally set up stations where children wash, seed and trim vegetables and also take fresh produce home to their families. We never charge for our services or soup. Our mission is to waken children’s appetites as to how healthy food tastes and to make them aware how they feel after eating it. We endeavor to build pipelines to get produce that will be eaten into homes that might benefit.
