| What is the mission of your organization? | The mission of School on Wheels is to provide one-on-one tutoring and advocacy to school-aged children impacted my homelessness. Our vision is to equip these children with the educational tools necessary to achieve success in life and break the cycle of homelessness. |

| Our community has a crisis. While Indianapolis is a vibrant American city, our poverty rates are among the top ten cities nationwide. Children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population. School on Wheels seeks to address one of the root causes of homelessness: lack of education. Since our founding in 2001, we have: ~Utilized over 5,000 community volunteers as tutors ~Provided tutoring to 5,500 school-aged homeless children ~Provided 78,000 hours of tutoring ~Distributed 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to homeless children ~Distributed 6,000 sets of school uniforms to homeless children |

| Volunteers are needed to assist the mission by serving as after-school tutors for homeless children kindergarten-twelfth grade. High school students can tutor weekly or form a tutoring team and tutor once/twice per month during the school year. Students can also volunteer in the summer arts enrichment program. Non-tutoring volunteer opportunities include: hosting a supply or school uniform drive; assisting with special events; volunteering for shelter and school-based events; assembling curriculum materials, arts kits, and backpacks; helping with mailings and office support.
