What is the mission of your organization?
Safe Families for Children hosts vulnerable children and creates extended family–like supports for families through a community of devoted volunteers who are motivated by compassion to keep children safe and families together. We envision a world where children are safe and families transformed through radically compassionate communities. We aim to keep children safe during a family crisis; support, stabilize, and strengthen families facing crisis; and to reunite families and reduce the number of children entering the child welfare system, where appropriate. We do this by equipping volunteer host families, family friends, and family coaches to provide practical and relational supports to families in crisis for a lasting impact.
Which social causes (up to 3 choices) does your agency address through its programming? *
  • (3) Children
  • (10) Life Skills
  • (11) Poverty
Any comments about your selections you would like to share with the student philanthropists?
Who would you call in an emergency? For many of the families that call us asking for help the answer to this question is “I don’t know” or “I don’t have anyone to call.” They are faced with social isolation and poverty which is then compounded by their current crisis (emergency medical care, lack of employment, lack of childcare, etc.) and have little or no support system. Over 75% of the parents we serve are single mothers, and 100% of families live below the poverty line. While our immediate goal is to help them resolve the crisis, we know that the lack of a healthy support system could lift part of an ongoing burden. Our goal is long-term relationships between volunteers and families served so that a lasting support system can be built.
