What is the mission of your organization?
Our totally volunteer staff believes that no one should go hungry…no one should have to continually worry about where the next meal is coming from to put on the table to feed themselves or their family. In a society that stigmatizes poverty, we offer food, respect, and support to overcome obstacles.

We respond to individuals and families by providing meat, dairy, bread, nonperishable items and fresh produce from our fully “client choice” model. This empowers food recipients to select items within each major food group that best fits their household’s unique needs.

As vitally important as food is, during our food distributions, we also recognize the importance of sharing warmth and encouragement in an effort to show love and concern for the surrounding communities.

Which social causes (up to 3 choices) does your agency address through its programming? *
  • (9) Hunger
Any comments about your selections you would like to share with the student philanthropists?
Our county is generally known as the land of plenty. Because of this, so many grow up never knowing about the real struggle so many people face just to provide the very basics necessary for life. You are never too young to learn to recognize when another person is struggling and to watch for ways that you can make a difference.
Does your organization have volunteer opportunities available for students? *
Yes, Grades 9 – 12
List possible volunteer opportunities -or- a link to where they can be found on the web.
We welcome volunteers of all ages. but are thrilled when we see younger people take an interest in helping others. Our food pantry serves a large number of clients which requires a lot of food and substantial time and effort to pull together.

There are always volunteer opportunities such as:
–Helping to unload the trucks with pick-up orders and deliveries and get
the food products inside the building

–Getting food products inside the building and learning the safe
handling and storage techniques as required by the county
health department

–Setting up the tables with the food to be given at that week’s
distribution

–Helping behind the food tables during distribution
*Keeping the tables and shelves filled
*Helping clients to know what the choices are to select from and how
many they can choose

–Bringing grocery carts back inside after clients have unloaded them

–Taking out trash, general cleaning and putting food and equipment
away
