St. Francis Seraph Ministries (SFSM) serves Breakfast and Dinner 5 days a week in the Mother Teresa of Calcutta Dining Room (previously known as the Soup Kitchen) to help those we are fighting poverty and are hungry and/or homeless. SFSM also teaches nutrition, sewing and jewelry making classes – skills that are no longer taught in schools. By teaching students nutrition it will help people make healthy choices in what is consumed. Healthy choices lead to combatting chronic diseases; such as obesity, diabetes and heart problems, which are rampant in the marginalized communities where processed food is cheaper. We also teach sewing and jewelry classes in hopes that students will continue to make items and we will represent them as artists for a supplemental income. We also provide Foot Care for those experiencing homelessness and/or on their feet all day. Foot Care includes massaging feet, trimming nails, new socks and sometimes a new pair of shoes. | |
