Any comments about your selections you would like to share with the student philanthropists?
As philanthropists, it’s essential to consider the long-term impact of our efforts. Our focus on education, health, and children stems from the belief that these areas are foundational for building stronger, more resilient communities. Education equips individuals with the knowledge and skills to improve their lives and contribute meaningfully to society. Health, particularly access to quality healthcare, is a basic human right—without it, progress in any other area becomes nearly impossible. And focusing on children ensures that we are investing in future generations, giving them the opportunity to lead lives of purpose, potential, and promise. When you invest in these critical areas, you’re not just helping individuals in the short term—you’re contributing to a legacy of empowerment, opportunity, and community well-being that lasts far beyond your initial efforts.

Here are several volunteer opportunities for children in grades 9-12 to support the Ghana Schools Project from the U.S.: 1. Textbook & School Supply Drives • Organize local drives at schools, churches, and community centers to collect textbooks, school supplies, backpacks, and other materials. • Students can serve as ambassadors to raise awareness about the needs in Ghana, educating their peers and community on the importance of education and access to resources. 2. Fundraising Events • Organize bake sales, car washes, or charity runs to raise money for the purchase of student desks, textbooks, and medical supplies. • High school students can design and sell custom T-shirts or merchandise with proceeds going to support the project. 3. Awareness Campaigns • Start a social media campaign to raise awareness about the needs of students in Ghana, using platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube to spread the word. • Create videos or presentations to share with local schools, clubs, and organizations, encouraging them to get involved. 4. Assembling Care Packages • Students can volunteer to assemble care packages that include donated items such as s personal hygiene products and school supplies for students in Ghana. • Schools or community centers can host a “Packing Party” where volunteers gather to prepare shipments. 5. Peer-to-Peer Pen Pal Program • Create a pen pal program connecting U.S. students with students in Ghana. This could help students exchange cultural experiences, encourage learning, and develop global friendships. • The program can also involve creating and sending personalized letters, artwork, or educational materials to students in Ghana. 6. Volunteering at Events • High school students can volunteer to assist at Ghana Schools Project events (such as benefit dinners or charity auctions) by helping set up, managing booths, or assisting guests. • They could also create informational booths at local fairs or festivals to educate others about the project and recruit more volunteers. 7. Grant Research & Writing • Students with an interest in writing can assist with researching and writing grant proposals to apply for funding from various organizations to support the project’s goals. • A grant writing club or team can be formed, mentored by a professional. 8. Graphic Design & Marketing • Students skilled in graphic design can create flyers, posters, or social media graphics for upcoming events and campaigns. • They can also assist in website updates or designing educational materials for use in Ghana. 9. Host Educational Workshops • Students can organize workshops to teach their peers about the challenges faced by students in Ghana, how the Ghana Schools Project is making a difference, and ways to get involved. • This can also be done virtually by connecting with schools in Ghana to share knowledge and exchange ideas. 10. Health & Hygiene Awareness Program • High school students can assist in collecting and donating hygiene products such as soap, toothpaste, and sanitary products for Ghana students. • They can also help create health and hygiene information kits for distribution in schools and clinics in Ghana. By involving high school students in these activities, they can develop leadership skills, gain a global perspective, and make a tangible difference in the lives of their peers in Ghana. |
