| The Wilmington Area Humane Society (WAHS) is an all-volunteer non-profit formed in 2002. WAHS operates a shelter/adoption facility which takes in and cares for cats and dogs. After a vet check, immunizations and if over 12 weeks of age, spayed or neutered, the pets are placed for adoption. Dogs and cats are acquired by owner release, cats dropped off at our facility plus dogs also come from the Clinton County Dog Warden. We have in excess of 45 volunteers that feed, socialize and exercise dogs and cats in our adoption program, others who clean & do upkeep on the facility plus those who take on specialized projects such as pet photography, education of the public concerning animal care and more. Humane education programs are offered and we help local residents with lost & found pets by posting lost and found pet notices on our Facebook page. | |

| List possible volunteer opportunities -or- a link to where they can be found on the web. | Student groups may do a do a special cleaning of the shelter; fundraising, or if if a student is 18 years of age, work as an animal caretaker. There are four daily animal caretaker shifts; volunteers can serve as a substitute or as a regular shift volunteer. Students under 18 years must be paired with someone over 18, either a family member who is willing to help out or another volunteer. |
